Sam leads Equal Justice USA's engagement with evangelical people and spaces. His faith background enables him to tell stories about the realities of justice and injustice in America and hold together a view of the world as a place both exceptional and exploitative. Before coming on board with EJUSA as the manager for their Evangelical Network in 2021, Sam taught high school history for 10 years in North Carolina and Virginia. He has a B.A. in education and psychology from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and a master’s in theology, ethics, and culture from the University of Virginia.
His work on Medium helps Christians consider what it means for social activism to be a direct result of the faith. Sam's theology is an outworking of considering not who committed a crime and should be punished but rather what harm was done and how can there be healing.
